Network The Man Who Could Work Miracles
Based on the book by the father of Sci-Fi, H.G. Wells (War of the Worlds, The Time Machine), The Man Who Could Work Miracles is co-scripted by Wells and Lajos Biro (The Last Command), directed by Lothar Mendes (The Four Feathers, If I Had A Million) and produced by Alexander Korda (The Third Man). A charming blend of escapism, romance, philosophy and impressive visual effects, it is hard to believe that this family film was made in 1936.Three celestial beings ponder what Man would do if he could work miracles. To settle the debate they decide to give some ordinary little fellow this power to see what he will do with it. Fotheringay (Roland Young, The Philadelphia Story), a drapers assistant, is assigned miraculous powers, though hes not sure what to do with them. After his initial excitement at the amazing tricks he can perform, he soon tires of the selfish responses from those around him and, taking on the mantle of responsibility, he summons the worlds leaders and asks for peace.
