Screenbound Great War Horses
Over 130,000 Australian horses served in the 1914-1918 war. None came home. This is their story. Known as Walers, they were a special kind of horse as they could withstand great heat, travel great distances and perform great feats in battle. They served their Light Horsemen most significantly in the Desert War. Across the inhospitable terrain of the Middle East, they carried the first of the victorious Allied forces into Damascus in 1918.
